CBS 2 News Chicago – Devices 4 the Disabled’s headquarters is located in the same building as another nonprofit, Center for Independence Through Conductive Education, and both organizations service people with disabilities. Because of the lack of handicapped parking spaces and safe and accessible sidewalks and curbs, accessing the organizations was a barrier and struggle for many.

After two years of not getting anywhere with emails and phone calls to the city, CBS2 Chicago’s Noel Brennan’s investigative reporting helped raise disability awareness, highlighting these struggles. With the additional help of Alderwoman Julia Ramirez of the 12th Ward, in January 2024, handicapped accessible parking was designated on 36th Place, helping meet the basic needs of those visiting the organizations.

Thank you to Alderwoman Ramirez for helping bring action to our advocacy, resulting in improvements to the needed infrastructure and making our organizations and community more accessible for people with disabilities.
