Medicare Delays Independence

Meet Peter. Peter has been through a lot- including an arm and leg amputation, and several unsuccessful hip surgeries. These procedures left Peter unable to walk on his own. Through Medicare, he received a manual wheelchair about a year and a half ago. Living alone in Ottawa, IL (a more rural community), using the manual wheelchair made getting around very difficult. A power chair is really what Peter needed. Unfortunately, Medicare is only able to cover one piece of equipment every 5 years, so getting that power chair at a price he could afford seemed impossible. That’s where D4D came in! We were able to get Peter the power chair he needs to be independent. Peter is most excited to be able to meet his friends for coffee at the local diner, and enjoy the beautiful spring weather. What a way to start the month!
