D4D was honored to help out our friends at CBS Chicago, Brad Edwards and Wendy Widom. A while back, Joe Zuniga was wheeling down Michigan Avenue on his motorized scooter when he encountered Brad. Joe stopped and told Brad how much he enjoyed Brad’s work on TV, and they became friends. Joe’s wheelchair broke down, and insurance wouldn’t provide him with a replacement. Brad asked if D4D could help and we were glad to provide a new scooter today.
Getting outside safely is important for Joe, who has osteogenesis imperfecta, a disorder that results in brittle bones that break easily. If Joe falls he could break his back, with catastrophic consequences. He’s been stuck in his apartment for several years. His new scooter will help him get downtown and to the Chicago festivals he loves.
Here’s the text of an email Joe wrote to Brad Edwards at CBS TV…..
Good morning, Brad. I just want to thank you so much for assisting me and helping me with getting a scooter. Your staff and coworkers are wonderful. You guys at Channel 2 News are awesome and Bob and the people who came over my place where just a fun bunch. I felt like I made news friends too because they asked to be Facebook friends with me now I have a few new friends thanks to you again, Brad.
I finally went out yesterday really feeling very relaxed and safe riding around and especially getting a breath of fresh air. It was great getting out there again.
I am looking forward to going to ALL the neighborhood fest this year. For the last five years I missed them ALL because I couldn’t get around. Now I’m going to make up for lost times LOL. PS I also miss my freebies when they hand out free things at the fest ?
Thank you so much, Brad. I really hope to meet you one day and thank you so much for the autographed picture of you. Now I have to work on a selfie picture with both of us.
Well let me let you go. I know you’re a busy guy. Thank you so much, Brad. A big hug and a big thank you to you and your staff. Later my friend ????
